How it works

From the 2026-27 academic year the UAE places children entering KG and Grade 1 by the age they reach by 31 December (Ministry of Education announcement). British schools in Dubai: FS1 at 3, FS2 at 4, Year 1 at 5. American, IB, Indian and MOE schools: KG1 at 4, KG2 at 5, Grade 1 at 6. England counts age on 31 August, so children born September to December often land one year higher in Dubai. More in our cut-off guide.
